Karl Guthe Jansky (22. lokakuuta 1905 Norman, Oklahoma – 14. helmikuuta 1950 Red Bank, New Jersey) oli yhdysvaltalainen fyysikko.Häntä pidetään yhtenä radiotähtitieteen perustajista. Jansky löysi radiosignaaleja, jotka olivat peräisin maapallon ulkopuolelta tutkiessaan Bell Laboratoriesilla Atlantin ylittävän radioliikenteen häiriöiden lähteitä.

Using a rotating short-wave receiver array (Bruce array) operating at 20.5 MHz and 45 kHz, he discovered extraterrestrial 'noise' in 1932-1933. Jansky Karl Jansky attended the University of Wisconsin where he majored in physics.

Karl Guthe Jansky, född 22 oktober 1905 i Oklahomaterritoriet, död 14 februari 1950 i Red Bank, New Jersey, var en amerikansk forskare inom radiokommunikation. Jansky fick anställning hos Bell Telephone Laboratories 1928.

I especially liked learning more about the life of Karl Jansky. As a user of some of NRAO's telescopes I was fascinated by the full story of the observatory.

Facebook gives people the power to Karl Jansky built an antenna that could be rotated on the wheels of a Model T so that he could track down sources of radio static, inventing radio astronomy in the process. Much of the outdoor footage for the 1997 film Contact was shot on-site at the Very Large Array observatory in New Mexico. In radio astronomy, the flux unit or Jansky (symbol Jy) is a non-SI unit of electromagnetic flux equivalent to 1026 Watts per square meter per Hertz. The unit "Jansky" is named after the pioneering radio astronomer Karl Jansky.

Facebook gives people the power to At this location in 1931, Karl Jansky, a Bell Laboratories physicist and radio researcher, recorded for the first time radio signals from beyond the Earth. The source of these signals—radio noise at a wavelength of 14.6 meters—was the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. Karl Guthe Jansky : biography October 22, 1905 – February 14, 1950 Karl Guthe Jansky Early life Karl Guthe Jansky was born in what was then the Territory of Oklahoma where his father, Cyril M. Jansky, was Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma at Norman. Karl Guthe Jansky was born on month day 1905, at birth place, to Cyril M Jansky and Nellie Grace Jansky (born Moreau). Cyril was born on March 15 1870. Nellie was born on September 23 1870, in Michigan, USA. Karl Jansky, pioneer of radio astronomy, was born on the 22nd of this month in 1905 in what was then the Oklahoma Territory. He graduated in 1927 with a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Wisconsin, where his father Cyril was a professor of electrical engineering.

Karl Jansky died in 1950 at the age of 44 from a chronic kidney condition. His older sibling Cyril, Jr., also a radio engineer, summed up his brother’s work this way: “The scientist’s problem is to recognize basic facts even though they are obscured by a wealth of extraneous material, and then to apply creative imagination in their interpretation. Jansky has been memorialized by the scientific unit "Jansky" that astronomers use every day as a measure of the strength of astronomical radio sources. The Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array. The original VLA was authorized by Congress in 1972, and astronomers began using it for research even before its dedication in 1980.

Karl Guthe Jansky died in Red Bank, New Jersey in February, 1950 at the age of forty-four. In the trying period that followed his death I told the members of his family that his contribution to basic science was such that the full value of his discovery would not be recognized for at least half a century.
